Grede Holdings acquires foundry in Omaha, Neb.

Grede Holdings LLC, which owns a foundry in St. Cloud, on Wednesday announced the acquisition of a foundry in Omaha, Neb.

Grede acquired the foundry and machining assets of Paxton-Mitchell Corp., which will be renamed Grede Omaha LLC. Terms were not disclosed.

The Omaha facility employs 75 people and is expected to expand in 2012 as additional business is transferred from other Grede foundries. Any expansion is not expected to affect St. Cloud, according to Grede spokeswoman Sarah Moore.

Grede continues to bounce back after filing for Chapter 11 in 2009, shortly after there were 85 layoffs at the St. Cloud location, which makes auto parts. Grede rehired many of the laid-off workers and, as of early 2010, employed 281 people in St. Cloud. At that time, Grede Holdings had 2,700 employees after it combined assets with Citation Corp. According to a news release Wednesday, Grede has 5,000 employees and operates 16 foundries and four machining operations to serve transportation and industrial markets.
