10.27.07

Good gravy! I haven't updated this thing in almost a year and a half. And no one really noticed. Ah, well.

I haven't been sitting on my hands that whole time. Okay, well, part of the time... After finishing the Bomb Queen/Blacklight book, I kinda slinekd away from comics for a while. Not intentionally, there was just a lot going on. Ella and I decided late last year to get off our asses and get married. So, we planned it in only a few months and got married March 2nd of this year. Yeehaw!

I'd also been planning since late last year to start a karaoke business with my pal Aaron. After carefully plotting a course and spending oodles of dough, we finally launched Hi-Vox Entertainment in April. Aaron bailed after a few months to concentrate on his other business, but I've rolled on, transitioning to doing regular DJ work as well. In my first six months, I've done dozens of karaoke gigs, as well as DJing high school dances, parties and bar mitzvahs. It's been going well enough that it's now my regular job! How sweet is that?

Now that I have a lot more free time, I'm slowly working my way back toward comics. It's a long road, but I'm hoping maybe you'll see something from me in '08.

I'm also planning on revamping this site, probably turning it into a blog, as most people are wont to do these days. Sure would make updating a lot easier and more frequent. We'll see...

Looks like I can talk about that one-shot now. It's called Bomb Queen vs. Blacklight One-Shot. Pretty simple, right? It's drawn by Bomb Queen's creator, Jimmie Robinson, and is sub-titled "Catfight." Bet you'll never guess who's in it and what happens. At any rate, head over to the GIGS section for details. I've got interviews in the works for Newsarama and the Pulse to promote the book. I'll post the links when they're available.

04.14.06

Wow, has it been THAT long since I've updated this site? No wonder people don't go to my message boards. I've only posted twelve updates in two years. Yeesh.

Ah, well, a couple of new things are happening. For the two of you who will probably read this a month or so after the fact.

First, if you didn't know, I'm not writing ShadowHawk anymore. My last full issue was #9. Nothing sinister to report. Jim Valentino wanted to take over the writing and art chores on his baby to take him new places and hopefully generate some interest. With two writer changes and three art changes in the first nine issues, it's clear we weren't burning up the charts, so drastic action had to be taken. And yeah, I miss writing it a little bit - because I had some kickass ideas of where to go - but it's always better to look forward rather than back.

Segue: I'm writing a one-shot for Image and Shadowline as we speak, due in shops this August. I should be finishing up the script tomorrow, and some of the art has already come in. It looks and reads cool as hell. A very fun, one-and-done 22-pager that might not shock or amaze you, but it sure as shit will entertain you. Shadowline editor Kris Simon posted a sneak peak of the cover on her forums, so I assume I should be able to announce what the book is pretty soon.

Oh, I've also broken down and posted a profile on MySpace.com. Seems like everybody's doing it these days and it takes nothing to maintain, so I bowed to peer pressure and created one. I'm not fourteen, nor female, so don't ask.

That's all there is to report for now. When I'm allowed to talk about the one-shot, I'll post the details here.

09.22.05

My first ish of ShadowHawk (#5) hit stands yesterday. Looks pretty badass.

Blacklight #2 should be out October 8th. No idea why it can't be out sooner, seeing as I already got my comp copies, but I don't get paid to worry about that stuff.

Big changes coming on SH. As reported on Newsarama, Ted Wing is taking over the art chores on ShadowHawk starting with Issue 7. Pencils, colors, the whole shebang. He does this paint-style thing that I'm too much of a plebian to wrap my head around. Alls I know is it looks fuckin' purty. Sure gonna miss Carlos, John and the colorists we'd been working with, but this was a necessary change. *sigh* At any rate, this all leads into a major storyline that begins in Issue 9. It's called "Rise" and the ShadowHawk that emerges from the aftermath by the end of Issue 12 will change the status quo.

Y'know, if people e-mailed me to bitch about my infrequent updates, it might persuade me to be a little better about it. Just sayin'.

07.26.05

Lots of news. First, Blacklight #1 is on the stands! The reviews have been positive. Go buy it. Feed my family. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll tell you how to reorder.

Second, if you haven't heard already, I'm the new writer of ShadowHawk! Jim Valentino liked my work on Blacklight enough to offer me the gig on SH when Kep decided to step away to focus on other stuff. It's been a hoot to write thus far, so I hope you'll check it out. My first issue is #5, which comes out in September.

Okay, so two items doesn't qualify as "lots" of news, but it does when there hasn't been any in a couple months. So there.

05.21.05

New Wherlpool forum is FINALLY up and running. Looking a little bland right now, but once I get the hang of phpBB, I'll make it purty.

05.20.05

Okay, I know. It's been forever. I'll get better at updating this, I promise.

That said, the project I wasn't allowed to name way back in January is called BLACKLIGHT, the first issue of which is due to hit the shelves on June 29th. Spinning out of the new ShadowHawk book written by my pal Jim Keplinger, it's scheduled as an ongoing, color monthly series and stars a character of Jim Valentino's creation. I've updated the GIGS page a bit, so keep checking back for more details. Art is by John Toledo, inks by Marc Deering, Kanila Tripp handles colors, and the aforementioned Keplinger lays down the letters. Kris Simon and Jimmy Vee edit.

For some insight on the series, check out an interview I did for Newsarama a couple weeks back. To scope some of that hot Toledo art and get a little sneak of the story, hit the five-page preview at the Image Comics site.

An artist has been chosen for the Project-I'm-Not-Allowed-To-Name-Yet and he is fan-fucking-tastic. We solicit in a few weeks. It's my hope that I can show some art and talk about the gig at that point, because this cat is going to blow your minds.

By the way, for those of you out there who have either quit drinking, or love the taste of beer but want to be able to drive home at the end of the night, Guinness makes a lovely N/A beer called Kaliber. Beer advocates don't like it, but for me - a guy who likes imports, it's a decent alternative.

01.02.05

It's 2005, and STILL no goddamned flying cars. Previous generations had it all wrong. Bastards.

So, we make it through another 365 days relatively unscathed, and most of the world celebrates this by getting shitfaced drunk and hopping into their one-ton death machines to head home at two in the AM. The irony isn't lost on me. Anyhow, hope this year is better than the last for you. Looks like mine is already on its way. Nice segue, Wherle...

I've been tapped by one of the founders of Image Comics to write a new series based on a new character of his creation. It's set to debut in June, but I don't think I'm allowed to divulge any details yet. I'll be sure to offer some updates as they happen.

12.13.04

So, I guess what I'll do is just update this thing once every three or four months, since things are so boring lately. :~/

Oh, don't bother clicking on the 'Pool button. That forum is gone. Until such a time as I feel it's necessary to start up a new one, that link will simply lead to the non-existent old forum. I'll put something up in the new year, just haven't decided where yet.

Happy Holidays, and crap.

9.3.04

I know, I know. It's been forever since I've updated the site. Four months to the day. Frankly, I just don't have much to say right now. Not a lot's going on career-wise, and I'd rather not turn this into a blog, so hence: no updates.

I will say that I had a great time in Chicago for the big annual WizardWorld comic convention hootenanny a few weeks back. Met some awesome people, partied down with same, and nabbed a mile high stack of kick ass comics, most of them independents. Also paid witness to David Mack serving up a healthy dose of dance-off whoop ass to a message board fan in the Hyatt lobby at 3AM. Good times.

Randomville is gearing up for a big change. We've brought in some new editors, are producing more content than ever before, and are set to debut a new look for the site within the next several weeks, courtesy of a cache of new designers we've brought on board. Should be aces.

5.3.04

So, this past weekend was the launch of RANDOMVILLE.COM. This thing was a little more difficult to get up and running than I thought, but it was totally worth it. Check it out. Lemme know what you think. Like it or I hit you face.

I also got to meet some of the peeps responsible for creating it at a party for the WOXY message boards in Dayton. People came from Minneapolis, Kansas City, Richmond, and yep, even England for this party. If I were a frat boy, I'd call it a "RAGER." I woke up Saturday morning sticky, wet and confused. All the signs of a good'un.

4.26.04

Yesterday, I spent an inordinate amount of time editing pieces for Randomville, ignoring my family in the process. I researched and wrote one article of my own today, and edited two more pieces, once again ignoring my family. Tomorrow, I plan to write one more piece, edit an interview I did with Fabian Nicieza about a month ago, find and edit some images to coincide with about two-dozen pieces, and begin uploading articles to the server. Can't see how I'll be doing anything but ignoring my family again. *sigh*

4.24.04

Welcome to the BUZZ. "News" sounds so atypical, so I thought I'd give it some zing. Makes me sound important. *that's the plan anyway* This is where I'll keep people who are -- for whatever reason -- interested in me abreast of what's going on with the site and my life, personally, professionally, or otherwise.

Today (well, over the last few days anyway), I revamped the front and BUZZ pages completely. I'll probably get to PALS today as well, and finish the others over the next week. You haven't missed much. The site hasn't been up long, so it's not like you're gonna miss the original look. I dig this a lot better anyway. It's a little more humdrum right now, but it's easier to read and easier to maintain. I'll probably throw some more images in here and there so it's not quite so aesthetically bland.

Got a call tonight, out of the blue, from a childhood friend. Seems he came across my number by sheer coincidence and decided to give me a buzz. We haven't spoken in maybe 15 years, so it was really cool to hear from him.

I have a bunch of stuff to edit for Randomville -- the new pop culture webzine I'm an Associate Editor for, which launches on April 30th -- so site updates are mostly done for the day. Go find something else to read.
